Please sign the petition. The only way to save this sweet dog from being murdered by the Belfast City Council is to hit them in the pocketbook.

As it stands now, they are keeping him in isolation in hopes of turning him into an unsocialized beast. We're on to you Belfast!

For almost two years the dog Lennox has sat on death row, in isolation. This dog has committed no crime, but is incarcerated all because of the way he looks and what he "might" do. The Olympic Flame is currently scheduled to pass through Belfast on June 6, 2012. The flame itself represents purity and the endeavor for perfection. We are Olympic supporters who are asking that the Olympic Committee not allow the flame to pass through the city of Belfast unless the Belfast frees Lennox and returns him to his family.

Plague rats are a whimsical catnip and valerian cat toy that cats love.

Valerian creates a more mellow playtime than catnip alone, and cats seem to prefer it. However, the Plague Rat has a strong odor that some humans don't like. We store our ratsies in the freezer when we aren't playing with them.

The cover is a rough-textured cloth that the cats love, but it doesn't stand up very well.

All that being said, we always have at least one Plague Rat in the house. We bring it out when we have visitors, particularly if they are history buffs, Monty Python fans, or CDC employees.

My dear furend @Petiethecat did get sick again, but da v-e-t pulled him through. Petie has diabetes and his kidneys is failing. There are great treatments for it now that can extend kittehs lives and keep us comfortable and happy. Lots of anipals are sitting on #PetiesPorch sending #HealingPaw.

Purrr... da @sisfurcats are mature pfbbt! and gets an extra level of vet care. Mature means over 10 years. Dey gets a senior workup every year which includes blood work in hopes of discovering subclinical health problems, like Chilipepper's hyperthyroidism. In dis part of da world it costs about $250. Chilipepper will be "geriatric" like my furend Petie next year so she will get extra vet visits.

Rather than continue to expound on veterinary care I'd like to share an article on the American Animal Hospital Association web page.

World Rabies Day:
Awareness is the Best Defense against Rabies

The world is again joining together on September 28th to raise awareness and understanding about the importance of rabies prevention. Rabies is the oldest and deadliest disease known to mankind and I think we all should support this initiative.

Rabies is a preventable disease, yet kills 55,000 people needlessly each year, half of whom are children under the age of 15. That's right, rabies kills 150 people a day!

"Rabies is primarily a disease of children, who are particularly at risk from this terrible disease, due to their close contact with dogs, the major global source. Children are more likely to suffer multiple bites and scratches to the face and head, both of which carry a higher risk of contracting rabies. Children are often unaware of the danger that dogs transmit rabies and may not tell their parents when a bite, lick, or scratch has occurred from an infected animal"

Rabies is a viral disease that can be transmitted to animals and humans. The disease is transmitted mainly by bite, but exposure may also occur through contamination of broken skin or mucous membranes with saliva from an infected animal. Once neurological symptoms of the disease develop, rabies is fatal to both animals and humans. The good news is that rabies is easily preventable.

"Vaccination prior to possible exposure is a crucial part of health management of domestic animals, and is the single most important factor in rabies prevention", said Peter Costa, Global Communications Coordinator for the Alliance for Rabies Control.

Rabies prevention starts with the animal owner. Protect yourself, your pet and your community by taking animals to be vaccinated. Avoid stray animals and wildlife. If you are bitten, wash bite wounds with soap and water and seek medical attention immediately. If your pet is bitten, consult your veterinarian immediately. Prompt and appropriate treatment after being bitten and before the disease develops can stop rabies infection and/or prevent the disease in humans and animals.

The World Rabies Day initiative also raises money towards local rabies prevention and control programs, with eight projects funded since 2008.

It goes without saying that you should never, EVER give hooman drugs to a pet unless your vet gives you the ok. Something as harmless as aspirin can be a killer!

There are a number of good books on making nommy homemade foods for dogs (and cats). Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats explains the dietary needs of dogs and cats, and gives recipes for healthful meals you can make in batches. The book even has recipes for supplements you can spoon onto commercial dog or cat foods to replace nutrients lost in the canning process.

To make it simple, cats and dogs can see some colors, but not all. Cats and dogs have deuteranopia, commonly called red-green color-blindness.

The inset picture in the image above shows what a cat might see when looking at the larger picture. To sum it up, cats see blue and yellow fine, but other colors are problematic.

The image was created in Gimp using the colorblind filter and a screen capture. To use the filter, click View → Display Filters… and select what type of colorblindness you want to check.

Can you believe it has been a year since da #nipclub Grand Opening?? And what a year it has been!

@maggietkat and @flacatlady created #nipclub as a place much like Cheers. Everyone knew your name, the house was rockin good jams, you could still light up a 'nip cigar without stepping out in the alley.

The DJs that night were @thenascarkitty, BunnyJeanCook, RudyCKat, and of course... me, @kittehboi. I DJed twice, an energetic set for the fast crowd and a later cool blues and jazz set for da slow anipals. MOL!

There were planners and promoters and dozens of pole dancers.

Dis my collage. I'm at the bottom playing sax.

As time went on, dat #nipclub became more more of a swinging hot spot. Dis me during my Flycat stage.

Promoter @mattiedog lined up the entertainment for the evening. He scored a coup with that superstar anipal band @shibberingC The Shibbering Cheetos.
The DJs that night were @thenascarkitty, @BunnyJeanCook, @kittehboi, with a special appearance from @RudyCKat. The barktenders hands were flying as they prepared food and drink for the nipclub's elite clientele. Who can forget @JBhippo's horseradish Bloody Marys! Other DJs, please contact @kittehboi so I can add your names.

Pimp @kittehboi managed our resident flirts and party girls @ersle and @autumnthedoxie.

Among the partygoers were @georgetheduck, Duck brother from another mother; @mariodacat, Ladies man about town; @pumkinpuddy, Dancing queen; and the famous @cokiethecat Hollywood Insider.

The early evening floor show was an extravaganza in the style of Buzby Berkeley with the besequined talents of @femmekatz, @danapixie, @BunnyJeanCook, @sadlovelyheart, @hollieferguson, secksy ginger boi @petiethecat, @johnson1439, @Sisfurcats, @LadyGreyFox, @PushUpsnPaws, @tildatoo and Big Bad Boy @BorisKitty.

@snick_the_dog Plain clothes police dog, was in charge of drink quality - we think!

The nipclub pole dancers @brutusthedane and @countessbonnie kept everyone entertained.

The smokin' hot Late night Floor Show featured @crazykittykat1, @dawgblogger, @tinypearlcat and smouldering temptress @sanjeethecat.

Each Nipclub has a different theme, and anipals have shown up in some of the most outrageous outfits this side of Mars - Or in no outfits at all! @KingTuttifruiti is perhaps the most notorious of the nipclub streakers. This is a sampling of the original costumes worn in past nipclubs.

Undercover Mouse

Da lady got me a great toy from CatToys.com. It called Undercover Mouse and I could watch it for hours!

Dem sisfurcats like to jump on it.

Undercover Mouse is a battery-operated electronic device with a wand that spins around under a sheet. The motor tolerates being stopped and held in place by a cat with no problem at all. We haven't managed to break the wand yet and the 3 AA batteries last a lot longer than you'd expect.

I have been having fun on fursbook, but sometimes da anipals cops an attitude about Facebook. Somebody just told me dat Facebook has "an agenda" cuz some bad people operates on it.

Facebutt doesn't ask new members if dey fake soldiers, hookers or animal abusers, and even if they did those low-lifes would lie about it. Hell, I lied and said I was hooman, so you see how easy it is? How is dat an agenda?

Facebook's Terms of Service states very clearly

Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:
You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission.

Facebook is nothing more than a software platform for creating communities and da platform membership reflects the real world prevalence of dem sickos. Dey more visible cuz dey tinks da innerwebs is anonymous. So don't friend people you don't know! And for crying out loud, don't let your kids on there unsupervised. Would you put your kid on a train into the city alone? Well then! Why you let your kids on da innerwebs?

I would like you to please consider that law enforcement uses Facebook to catch dem bad people. You jump up and get da bad shit taken down, when FBI and Interpol go to catch dem da evidence iz gone. Dat Evidence Tampering and Obstruction of Justice. You should report crime to The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) or Information Technology Crime. Srsly.

I getz fake stufs in my peemail every day. I see it on TV. It shows up in my mailbox. People on da corner ask for money, twitter scammers asks for money too. It everywhere. So why are you singling out Facebutt? Easy, cuz you mad at dem and you not being objective. Facebook did hurt my feelings too when dey deleted my profile, but rules is rules, dear.

So tell your hooman to tell all his/her friends to write to Facebook and ask them to allow animal profiles. Don't sign some pointless petition, cuz dat just one email so it makes no impact. Send them hundreds of individual emails!

Shrimp have lots of taurine and lots of Omega-3 EFAs.

Taurine is an amino acid, a necessary nutrient. Any decent brand of cat food will supplement taurine, however some of it is destroyed by heat in the canning process. Cats have lost the ability to synthesize taurine. If they don't get enough from food they can suffer from Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), a potentially deadly heart condition.

Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) are necessary for the healthy functioning of every system in the cat's body. EFAs are found in seafood and some plants such as flaxseed and avocados.

Caplin ROUS, famous capybara, dies in Texas

My good furend Caplin ROUS died today. Caplin was a capybara, a large South American rodent, who lived in Texas. He was probably the most famous capybara in the world. And he was da undisputed King of da Rodents.

Caplin has lots of videos on Youtube but my favrit was da one where he trained his owner to feed him popsicles on demand!

Caplin did have a bloggy called Capybara Madness: A Pet Capybara's View of the World. Dem capyes is awfully cute, but if you wants to bring one home, read a bit about da care involved in keeping one. Remember dem capys is 100 lb hamsters. Sort of.

Caplin's owner wrote a book called The Adventures of Celeste the Cat: Celeste and the Giant Hamster which is about a lucky cat who gets to meet a capybara. I likes it lots.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) is an organization whose stated purpose is to prevent animal cruelty. The more I read about them, the less I like them.

Peta has a number of disturbing programs that target children. Cute cartoons tell children to break away from their families in much the same way as religious cults do. If a religious cult came into your school telling your kids that it is a sin to eat pork, how would you react?

Peta provides children with educational leaflets and comic books. The stated intent of Peta is to have children Question Reality. A likely result is to create a generation of 8-10 year olds with serious nutritional deficiencies. A vegan diet is absolutely an option for humans, but there are a few nutrients that we get mostly or exclusively from meat, dairy and eggs. If your kid has been taken in by Peta's massive marketing machine, PLEASE make sure they're getting adequate nutrition. Raising Vegetarian Children : A Guide to Good Health and Family Harmony is a great resource for parents. The two most significant deficiencies of a vegan diet are B12 and Omega-3 EFAs. Calcium and vitamin D3 can be a problem too.

Your mommy kills animals! But there are terrible people who cause our furry friends to die that way every day. And guess what? One of those terrible people is your mommy.

Remembering My First Pawpawty

My dear friend @BunnyJeanCook quoted my bloggy in an article entitled, "How Pawpawty Works." It took me back to my first #pawpawty just about a year ago.

Da #pawpawty can seem rather daunting. Da first time I walked into one I had no idea what was going on, but I quickly got dat der wuz DJs and Barktenders and it was all for a good cause. Party hearty!

Our dear furend @PetieTheCat is very ill. Petie is a 15 year old orange tabby who has diabetes and kidney failure. He is in crisis now, hiding in da closet not wanting to be touched. We hopin' da antibiotic and da pain pills gonna make him feel better.

I love dat Petie's sweet little giggle and da way he gives his @Pandafur dem "hugs kissey noze". (She's da pretty ladycat in da hat wif da heart near lower left corner.)

Sweet Pit Bull in Philadelphia Needs Rescue

Philadelphia friends, please share this video. This is Deuce, an American Staffordshire Terrier. Deuce is a neutered female, 6-8 years old, NO papers.

Deuce had a rough early life as a breeder, and has scars on her face and legs. Her present owner rescued her about 4 years ago. Despite that she is very sweet and eager to please.

Her owner is ill and can't take care of her. He has been putting off going into assisted living rather than risk sending Deuce to the ASPCA. Most shelters euthanize any pit bull they get because pitties have a bad reputation.

Look at this sweet face!

Update 6/25
Da lady did try to walk Deuce on a leash. Dat doggy was a little hesitant but after a couple of minutes she did walk along.
Da lady tried to teach Deuce "touch" to touch the lady's hand wif her nose on command. Dat doggy did pick it up in just a few minutes. She will see if Deuce remembers the command next time she over der. Da lady think maybe Deuce very trainable since she a cat person and don't know much about dem doggies.

How Pawpawty Works.

A special welcome to my nipclub furends! Please use the hashtag #nipclub for our special weekly pawty.

I wanted to explain my furend @FrugalDougal's #pawpawty to clear up some misunderstandings (or perhaps trolling) on Twitter.

A pawpawty is a virtual party held by and for the anipals (animal pals) on Twitter. To join, search hashtag #pawpawty. Each pawpawty benefits a different animal charity. A pawpawty lasts for an entire day and is attended by anipals from around the world. There are DJs spinning tunes using such sites as blip.fm and Grooveshark; Barktenders who serve virtual drinks such as Hank's Bacon Beer and tunatinis; and a Sekurity detail. It takes a lot of work to put together a pawpawty. Scheduling volunteers (over 50 at each party!), custom artwork, virtual menus. Dougal and his team do this every month. They are my heroes! Recently someone was complaining that they were ignored during #pawpawty because they didn't donate. This is simply not the case. The tweets scroll by pretty fast during #pawpawty, so my guess is that either a) the person they addressed missed the tweet, or b) the complainer didn't direct their tweet at any specific individual.

There is never a cover charge to attend Dougal's #pawpawty! Tweets of "tip the DJs and Barktenders" ask for donations to the charity, but donations are totally voluntary. Da lady is out of work so I sometimes don't tip, but I usually volunteer to DJ. We do what we can to help da less fortunate.

There has also been some question as to how one can be sure the donations go where they're advertised to go. For that reason I'd like to explain a bit about what a charity is and tell you about a couple of services that safely handle donations for charities.

USA

In most cases U.S. charities are Section 501(c)(3) Organizations. Donations to these charities are tax-deductible.

"The exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3) are charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and preventing cruelty to children or animals."

If you are ever in doubt about an organization, look it up on IRS.gov: Search for Charities, Online Version of Publication 78. Be sure to keep track of your donations during the year - I use TurboTax ItsDeductible because TurboTax Online will import the information automatically.

Many anipals in da USA use Firstgiving - Online fundraising for everybody to set up a fundraising account. FirstGiving helps you find your favorite 501(c)(3) organization and create a fundraising web page. FirstGiving tallies the donations, takes a small percentage, and sends a check to your organization. Anipals using FirstGiving aren't involved in the money exchange at all.

Non-profits in the UK are called Registered Charities.

Charities are organisations that benefit the public in a way the law agrees is charitable.

PetCo do have some absolutely hideous things they call training collars. Dem collars are made of chain wif spikes on da inside to poke the doggy's neck when the leash is pulled. Dey haz 14" training collars that must be for controlling vicious toy poodles. Or Bad Cats.

Dat grumpy old sisfurcat Chilipepper gonna be 13 years old on May 6, 2010. Dat her real birfday. Her mama was feral and da lady's friend put a box out for da mama to use. Cats are pragmatic, dat mama had Chilipepper and her brovver Mr. Spooky and 4 other little black kittens in a box on her porch. Da mama know da hoooman loved kittehs and could keep dem safe while she hunted.

@Sisfurcats Chilipepper and her brofurcat Mr. Spooky as tiny kittens in 1997. Wasn't she sweet? She was da runt of da litter.

Dis Mr. Spooky and Chilipepper hanging out on da sofa in 1998. He had a kangaroo tail! He did take care of his little sister. Mr. Spooky crossed RB in 1999. Chilipepper went on walkabout looking for him and was in bad shape when she found her way home 9 days later. She healed up ok, but didn't talk for several months. Poor Miss Chilipepper.

In 2002 Miss Chilipepper had a medical emergency. Her back end was paralyzed one morning when she woke up and she started having seizures. Da lady did reiki on her all da way to Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Neurology. Chili was in vhosp for several days. We don't know what happened, but da hoomans no longer use harsh cleaners or lawn chemicals and are very scared of spot-on flea treatments.

Chilipepper's back end iz weak since den and hurts sometimes. On bad days she can be very grumpy but we do love her anyway.

Da Chilipepper do have a nice life. She likes to hang out in da garden wif da lady and also likes to lie on da porch letting the sun warm her bones. I have been acting as her personal trainer since I got here in 2007. She is much more spry now.

Maybe da lady will make her a great big tuna cake wif salmon cream cheese icing and shrimp filling.

Facebook Hates Dogs Too

You may remember that in August 2009 Facebook deleted my account. I blogged it as Facebook Hates Cats. I contacted The Facebook Team and Jasmin told me:

According to our Terms of Use, Facebook profiles are intended for personal use by people over the age of 13 only.

Well, it turns out that Facebook Hates Dogs too. My friend Sydpie's account was deleted and she's very upset about it. She blogged the experience as I've Been Evicted By Facebook.

Anipals and Facebook furends, please make sure you keep a backup of your photos and links just in case. Da lady had copies of all my photos but hasn't found all my Facebook furends yet and my linkys are gone. I don't believe Facebook is combing through accounts looking for animals but if something (or someone) draws their attention to your account it will be deleted. Hint: Someone complained about my groundhog day post and got them to block me from importing it. Ask me how I got around it. MOL!!!

So if you get deleted you have a couple of options.

Your mom can add your profile to dogbook, catbook or rodentbook. She might want to start it now.
Your mom can create a Fan page. This is mine:

Coat Color & Personality

There is some question as to whether a cat's coat color is a good predictor of his personality. Any cat owner will tell you this is true, and the web has several lists of personality types.

The book The Domestic Cat: The Biology of its Behaviour, 2nd edition by Dennis C. Turner, lists three possible mechanisms for a causal relationship between cat coat color and personality type.

Coloring can affect the animal's perceptions, putting him at a physical disadvantage that affects his behavior.
The chemicals involved in pigmentation are related to, or metabolized to form, neurotransmitters that affect mood.
The genetic code for personality is on the same chromosome as the genetic code for coat color.

Soi Dog Foundation DVD

Phuket is on an island paradise in the Indian Ocean. It's a popular tourist destination.

Phuket is also home to tens of thousands of feral dogs and cats. The Soi Dog Foundation has a number of programs to help these animals. They have neutered over 20,000 feral dogs and 6,000 cats in their TNR program since 2003. They provide veterinary care for feral animals. They are sponsoring a feeding program at Buddhist temples. And they rehome many strays.

Soi Dog Foundation is setting an example in the humane treatment of strays for all of Asia. There are many shelters in the U.S. who could learn from them.

Please consider buying the DVD or better yet, donating. It's for a great cause!
